Tane
E toccherà a lui modificare, e così via.
Dens
Installation by Antonio Catalano
‘Dens’ are a natural consequence, in a certain sense taken to extreme, of the ‘sensitive wardrobes’.
Like the wardrobes, they too represent a place of refuge, a place of protection, a place of mystery.
Yet, while the wardrobe is in the home and can be easily located (only for us has it changed use), the den has to be found.
A path must therefore be followed.
It is a mystery as to what you will indeed find in the den. The visitor must partly modify the interior according to his own tastes and inclinations, using a wide variety of materials available.
Only future occupants will know what has taken place in the den before their arrival. And they must continue the modification. And so on.
In the meantime the traces of the various transformations will be lost or, should we say, they will remain only with the individual visitor.
While the ‘sensitive wardrobes’ have a universal validity for every visitor, as far as the dens are concerned there is no ‘everybody’.
While the disappearing and transformed ‘ephemeral cities’ remain at least in a photographic state, as far as the dens are concerned there is not even this evidence.
What remains is the individual memory of the visitor, a memory which can be transmitted to others or held in silence, re-memorised through drawing or reactivated through the building of other dens. In solitude or in company.
